MONTESANO, Wash. (AP) - An Elma man was killed by accidentally urinating on a downed power line after a one-car crash near Montesano.

Grays Harbor County sheriff's Deputy Dave Pimentel said Monday that 50-year-old Roy Messenger was not seriously hurt after he collided with a power pole Friday night and called a relative to pull his car out of the ditch.

When family members arrived they found Messenger electrocuted. Pimentel says Messenger apparently urinated into a roadside ditch but didn't see the live wire.

Pimentel says there will be an autopsy but burn marks indicated the way the electricity traveled through the body. shock.gif

seriously, huh? but in his defense .. the article did say he did not know, nor did he see, the fallen power lines.

To earn a
Darwin, one of the criteria has to be a phenomenal lapse of judgement. Him not knowing about the charged wire eliminates him from a Darwin. Additionally, The Darwin site specifically disqualifies death by peeing on a charged wire.

Not a Darwin (but not safe either)
* Whizzing on an electric wire
* Smoking in an oxygen tent
* Being hit by a train or automobile
* Aerosol cans, etc., in the oven
* Climbing into zoo cages
* Falling off precipice while posing or pissing
* Carbon monoxide poisoning
* Most autoerotic deaths
* all too common!

The autopsy showed that the current went through his hand and out his foot. The coroner concluded that he touched the wire with his hand. In my mind, though, I have to wonder if the coroner was being kind, because he would have been holding his Willie with his hand, so... raisebrow.gif

Easy explanation. He's holding his willy peeing, the current comes up the stream, into his hand and out his foot wich is touching ground. No need to touch the wire especially if the voltage on the wire was in the Kilovolt range (as it is on many poles before being stepped down for household use).
