2. IN FLIGHT

During flight, the aircraft operator must ensure that the following procedures are followed:
  1. Passengers must remain in seats beginning 1 hour prior to arrival at destination.
  2. Passenger access to carry-on baggage is prohibited beginning 1 hour prior to arrival at destination.
  3. Disable aircraft-integrated passenger communications systems and services (phone, internet access services, live television programming, global positioning systems) prior to boarding and during all phases of flight.
  4. While over U.S. airspace, flight crew may not make any announcement to passengers concerning flight path or position over cities or landmarks.
  5. Passengers may not have any blankets, pillows, or personal belongings on the lap beginning 1 hour prior to arrival at destination.

This makes no sense at all..
- It's okay to blow up a plane upto one hour before arriving?
- Will they take away watches as well? You can fairly accurately calculate where you are with them..
- Will they do away with windows so you can't see that you're flying over.. say New York?
- Will they let you poo/pee on their seats if you really have to go inside that last hour? (what if you're put in a holding pattern?)

It is all window dressing. It is feel-good legislation that does nothing to promote air safety.

It is very much akin to slamming the barn door after the horse has left.

And, yes, if I really need to go, I will crap in the seat if they do not allow me to use the restroom.

I find these things very silly as well. So they'll blow up the plane an hour and five minutes prior to landing. It makes no difference to them.

If they would use the equipment that is already available in the airports they wouldn't need this stupidity...and they likely would have been able to detain the guy before he got on the plane.

I can only hope that they relax this before we fly in the spring. 10-12 hours on a flight is going to be bad enough with the kids, but now they won't be able to do anything for the last hour?? Ack!!

The bigger question is how this guy got to fly in the first place.. He was on a watch-list for Pete's sake!!

Checking everyone thoroughly at the gate will do way more good then these measures. Here in Amsterdam they have machines (backscatter scanners) that definitely would've caught the stuff he was wearing, only they're not allowed to use them yet..
They're not certified for starters and there are privacy concerns

The answer is simple: Require all passengers to be naked. Impossible to conceal anything, and the Muslims will boycott the flights because the sight of a naked woman will send them to hell. grin.gif

You can still conceal when naked though...
