Hicksville mom charged with leaving 4 kids at pool

A Hicksville mother who left her four young children unattended at a town pool while she ran personal errands has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, Nassau police said.

Emilia Lanzetta, 44, a beautician, dropped her children - ages 6, 7, 9 and 11 - at the Bethpage Community Park Pool some time after noon on Thursday, police said.

At about 6:45 p.m., police said a "concerned parent" noticed that the children were not being supervised by an adult and notified workers at the pool.

The pool's policy requires a child under 16 to be accompanied by an adult at all times, police said.

"The lifeguards are there to supervise people in the pool," said Det. Lt. Louis Monteleone. "They're not there to supervise the general public."

Lanzetta has left her children unattended at the pool on "numerous occasions" during the summer, police said.

Police said they were unable to locate Lanzetta at the pool and no one was home so the children were driven to the Eighth Precinct and Nassau Child Protective Services was alerted.

Workers at the agency interviewed the children and released them into their father's custody, police said.

Officers inspected Lanzetta's home Thursday night when her husband, Anthony, returned.

"It appears that it was a well-kept home and there was nothing out of the ordinary," said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.

Lanzetta was to be arraigned Friday.

If there is a better alternative, then use it.

While she is certainly a contendor, I guess there are others who would win hands down that have not made the news.
