those are the words of the doctor who vainly attempted to help this mortally wounded young woman in Tehran today

Khamanei should be publicly hung for this

It might have been interesting, but it requires you to sign up for Youtube to see it, which I will not do.

It's a quick video of a young woman who was shot...kinda graphic.

That situation is only going to get worse.

Sad and hard times for all involved. She was a beautiful young woman. I have no idea how this will end, but much violence will continue. Sadly so.

I am reminded of a similar time in America on May 4, 1970, an event that changed America forever. For me, it was the event that meant the citizens had had enough. The reactions brought change...much needed change. I see the parallels in Iran and predict that the changes will roughly follow along the lines of what happened here.

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it.
Soldiers are gunning us down.
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her and
Found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

winking.gif You are MUCH older than I am JD. I don't know this. Would you explain a bit for me and others that don't have the historical experiences you have had? I am interested in the point you are making. I just don't 'get it'.

He's talking about Kent State University and the shootings there. I get the slight similarity, but feel this is far different. These people aren't protesting a war. They're protesting a psychopathic president and elections they feel may have been corrupt.

Sue, for the history of the event, here is a Wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings

But there was more to it and for me, the similarities of the social unrest in America then to the social unrest in Iran now are very similar. Nixon was a despotic control freak and the ruling party in Iran is also very controling. Nixon was elected on a promise of change, one of getting us out of the Southeast Asian war, yet he failed in his promise and the students of America began to rally together to demand social change that would lead to our getting out of the war.

The student unrest led to more and more confrontations across the country with Kent State becoming the bellwether for student cries for action. By this time the Vietnam war had escallated and the My Lai Massacre was in the news. Troops were coming home to be denigrated in public for their participation and Congress was running scared of the political unrest being shown on campuses across the US.

In Iran, the new political activists are very much like our activists then. They are young, educated and civically involved. They decry the political corruption that is the mark of their government and are demanding change for more civil rights. The death of Neda to me is as iconic as the death of the four dead in Ohio.

The video was indeed upsetting, but what downright infuriates me is the sheer number of sardonic, ignorant and disrespectful comments made on it. This is a person's life, and they are saying 'LOL' and 'HEAD SHOT'? What the fuck in hell?
Calypso
I tend not to read comments in youtube because they exemplify how many racists and xenophobes there are out there, not to mention those who are just plain asses.

The anonimity of the internet tends to being them out.
