Fla. city to workers: Wear underwear, deodorant
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – A Florida city is cleaning up with a new dress code that requires city workers to wear underwear and use deodorant. The city council in Brooksville north of Tampa recently approved a dress code that instructs employees to observe "strict personal hygiene."
It also prohibits exposed underwear, clothing with foul language, "sexually provocative" clothes and piercings anywhere except the ears.
Repeat offenders can be fired.
The city council approved the dress code 4-1 as part of a wider effort to update existing policies and ordinances.
The one vote in opposition came from Mayor Joe Bernadini. He said the underwear edict "takes away freedom of choice."

lol, I like the way the guy only protested the underwear thing about it taking away freedom of choice. Because if someone doesn't wear deodorant, it potentially takes away the freedom of smell from others...

Stupid SHIT, again.

My youngest son is finding out about stupid shit. He applied for a job as a tow truck driver. When he went in for the interview though ... it was NO. "We don't hire anyone with tattoes that can't be hidden." (He has tattoes on his hands/fingers and neck... plus other areas that can be hidden.) They had no interest in his drive record or character, only in his physical appearance.

And?! The company has every right to say, "We don't want that kind of look representing our company." Maybe he should have thought about the ramifications before he got inked.

while i (as an inked person myself) see the argument that the ink does not affect ones abilities, you also have to understand that there are still far too many people that look down upon tattoos and will not hire people with ink that cant be hidden. from a very pragmatic point of view, like it or not thats just how it is.

Indeed, there are employers who will not hire if there are piercings other than ears, unusual hair styles, clothing that is unacceptable to the employer, or are perceived to be too old, obviously homosexual, unshaven (men), or smoke.

All true. Many will also not hire obese or 'ugly' people, either. Minorities have legal protections to limit the amount of discrimination that goes on, but many others are routinely discriminated against ... sometimes overtly so, sometimes covertly so.
