A short film of a Muslim man defending his religion:

Intriguing ... I will be interested in other folks' takes on this.

My experience is ... (and I have taken courses in Islam so I have studied the religion ... and I have take courses in comparative religion as well ... for whatever this is worth) ...

This tape is propaganda, too. His intent is to paint a picture of peace. Islam has NOT been a peaceful religion anymore than Christianity, Judiasm, Buddhism, and others have been.

Yet, he does make very salient points. Without being extremely analytical ... he does make the point that it's anti-Muslim to be with a woman other than a wife (already implies subservience to me that the rules apply to men ... they can have more than one wife ... a wife may not have more than one husband however ... ) ... reality is where I reside ... Muslim men fuck around as much as non-Muslim men. Muslim men love to come to America to study and they get free flowing sex ... ... (anecdotal, I know ... but my experience of what I see).

... my point?

This man's truth is not the truth ... but at least sparks thought and debate.

I don't think he made the film to proclaim the truth, so much as he made it as a tool to fight the anti-Muslim sentiment that is out there in the world. What he may be proclaiming is the way that he lives his life as an average Muslim. Your average Muslim is not a radical nor do they blow themselves or other people up. But with the activities in the world today, people forget that so easily.

I like the style that he made his film in...it's to appeal more to a younger generation, to tell them that there is another side to the propaganda that they may be hearing at home or seeing on the 'net or in the news.

Very interesting. What it comes down to is that you have all kinds of folks that practice all kinds of religions and some are zealots and extremists. The latter two are bad because they often will not accept anyone else to the point of desiring their removal by any and all means possible.

I happen to agree with what he is saying, that Muslims are taking a really bad hit for the actions of the extremists and it is a shame. I find it interesting that someone like Timothy McVey is called a home grown terrorist with little attention paid to his religion or possible Christian Fundamentalist motivations.

Well ... the history of Islam is filled with violence and ... basically 'forced' submission. I know this is not unlike Christianity.

I find it interesting that all Christians are taking a hit for the asswipe types Bush propegates, when in reality MOST Christians are much more moderate in their views. They just don't have the strength of character to speak out, perhaps. Dunno.

I also am surprised that it's interesting that McVeigh's religiosity would even be a POV perspective for the media to consider in their desire to sway public opinion. To do so would be to ... arguably ... cut off business ties that support their profit margins.

One point that he is wrong about is the notion that people don'd judge Christian religions by the antics of a few.

Let's play a mind-association game.

See? It works however you present it. grin.gif

Just to point out an implication that could be made from what I inferred, I do not think of McVey as anything other then a nut case, regardless of his religious or personal beliefs. I do not blame Islam or all Muslims for the actions of a large group of zealots either. I blame the zealots.
