Former Taco Bell spokesman "Guapo El Perro" checked into the Betty Ford clinic today for treatment related to alcohol abuse. Mr. El Perro's agent Joseph Camel stated that hard times have fallen on the once beloved mascot in the years since his contract with Taco Bell was dropped. "Mr. El Perro is commited to winning his battle with alcoholism and returning to the spot light in the near future."

Since his departure from Taco Bell, Mr. El Perro has been featured in numerous unsucessful sitcoms, the most recent involving a spin off from the long running series "Perfect Strangers" which featured Balki Bartocomus, a man from a mediterranian island who goes to the United States to live with his cousin Larry Appelton. ABC felt that the revival, which would have included Mr. El Perro as another long lost cousin from Mexico, just wouldn't work with audiences.

Mr. El Perro has earned the reputation as quite the socialite since his days with Taco Bell. Playboy founder Hugh Hefner commented that "the grotto wont be the same without Guapo, but we are all pulling for him to make a speedy recovery." Jenny McCarthy former Playboy playmate, girlfriend, and mother of 8 of his children also released a statment, "Yo quero el perro. I wish him the best, and his children miss him too. But this really is the best thing for him right now."

El Perro is slated to make a guest appearance on the final episode of NBC's Friends. NBC has declined comment as to if he will still be included in the series finalie.
